FAQ And junk you should know. Nani?

Here's some questions that people often ask me, things you should know, or just stuff I really don't feel like answering personally. It would be a good idea to read through this page before asking me anything.

If there's something that you'd like to know that isn't here, please ask me!

Website Questions

Can I use your pictures on my website/web journal/message board?
No you may not. The images on this website are original and only meant to be viewed on this website. This includes both the original artwork AND any other images from the articles section, including, but not limited to, movie, anime, and video game screen shots, photographs, and any scans. You are highly encouraged to share what you find on this site with other people via the Internet, but you are to do so by posting a link to the page so that it can be viewed in its entire context, not by linking only to an image or several images. I want people to visit my website, and I've worked very hard to fill it with content. Please respect that and don't exploit it by stealing my hard work. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy,
contact me and I'll hear you out. I'm sorry if you can't find any other pictures to use, but I can't allow for my work to be used like that, so maybe you're better off making your own pictures instead of taking from someone else.

When are you going to update next?
I do my best to update whenever I have the time and/or inspiration to do so. To be on top of each and every update, sign up to the Mailing List and you'll be notified whenever new content has been added. Between updates, however, feel free to entertain yourselves by reading my weblog and posting on the message board, since both are updated independently of the website itself.

So, what's the deal with this Mailing List?
The deal is that you sign up, and I send you an e-mail every time I add something cool to this website. It saves you from having to check the website when there's nothing going on, and it keeps you up to date with the newest additions. Not enough? Well then I'll throw in some special announcements, cool links, and other fun stuff. Find out more here. If you like this site at all, then signing up to the newsletter would be a good idea. Trust me.

What happened to your old site?
While a few remnants of the old site are still around, most notably the name, I didn't think that it reflected the nature of myself or my artwork anymore. So, I cleaned the slate and started anew. If you had ever been to my old site on Geocities, erase it from your mind forever, because this is the good stuff. Read this article for more info.

Why do you bother with writing articles? I thought this was an art site.
This is far beyond being just an art site. I write articles because, for one thing, people say I'm a pretty good writer. It's my chance to write about whatever I want. People like them, and it lets me express myself in a different way. It also lets me add more content and variety to the site. If you like what I do and have got some ideas for other subjects you'd like me to tackle, let me know.

Why do you bold so many words?
I try to make the text look like it's worth reading. There's nothing worse than looking at a big block of text that you don't want to read. I want people to read through everything I write, so I do my best to make the text look interesting from a design standpoint. Bolding important words doesn't just make add the emphasis to certain things that I want to stand out, but it also breaks the monotony of the big boring looking blocks of text that people would otherwise not want to read.

If I click my right mouse button over an image, copyright information pops up. Why?
That is a deterrent to stop people from stealing. I do not want people taking my graphics or pictures without permission. It is something I severally frown upon, and all those who do this will be destroyed. I worked too hard on my artwork just to let some jerk rip it off. Even the pictures and other graphics took significant time and effort. This has become a big problem, so I am afraid that I can't just go and let anyone take anything they want from my site. Some may say that's too harsh, or it's a useless feature. I say that I'm just doing the best I can to protect what's rightfully mine. I hope you understand.

Can you link to my website?
Sure. Send me your website address and I'll take a look at it. I can't say that it'll happen right away, but I'll at least give it a glance. If I like what I see, then I would be happy to add your site to my links page. I'm especially interested in the sites of fellow artists. What would make me even happier, though, would be if you were to add a link to SykoGrafix on your site.

How can I link to SykoGrafix on my site? Do you have a button or something?
Just click here. There's a few different sized buttons and banners to choose from, and I add new ones every once and awhile. Just save them to your own web space and link back to http://www.sykografix.com. That's it.

Artwork questions

Are you available for commissions/jobs/etc?
YES! I am totally interested in any offers you may have in regards to me drawing, colouring, or whatever.
Contact me for more info and we can work things out. Don't be afraid to ask!

What are your rates?
I don't have any "rates" as such. But I'm probably pretty cheap. Everything is done on a case by case basis. I can even work for merchandise instead of money if you have something I'd want. Please just make an offer and we'll go from there.

What kind of art can I commission you to do?
I mostly do drawings and digital paintings. That can include a number of things, including, but not limited to, character designs, redesigns, portraits, action scenes, and so on. I'm also trained in graphic design, so I'm willing to take a stab at designing logos and the like. I'm able to do Flash Animations or 3D computer generated graphics at this time. Also, please don't ask if I know someone who can do something that I can not. Anything else you might have in mind is always worth enquiring with me. I have done commissions before and left clients satisfied, so you can trust that I can do the job.

Will you draw "adult" images for me?
Uhhh... no. I don't do that stuff. Not even for money. And yes, I've actually gotten this question before. This site is free of hentai. I'll be happy to draw just about anything else though.

Are you a professional?
Technically, yes. I have a job as an art teacher for Comic Book Masters. I get money for that, so by definition, I'm a pro. However, I do not consider myself to be at a professional level of quality yet, and I will constantly strive to improve my work. Anyone who remembers my old site will probably agree with me on that.

How did you get to be a teacher?
Long story short, I was involved in drawing classes, first as a student, then as an assistant and teacher. There was a demand for a series of anime classes, and, well, someone had to do it. I got elected for the job, and years later, I'm still teaching. Must mean that I've been doing something right.

What makes you qualified to teach anime?
Technically, nothing, since no such qualifications exist in North America. But I can say that I've studied the social, historical, and artistic elements of anime and manga for several years. I have a solid understanding of what anime is all about. My class is not some flash in the pan made to capitalize on a trend. It's for the hard core anime fans. Furthermore, I can actually express what I know in front of an audience and make people of all ages understand. Oh, and I can draw pretty girls too. I take great pride in my work as a teacher and after dealing with several waves of satisfied students, I truly believe that I've created a great program. That all said, this website is meant to be viewed as a separate entity, not an extension of my work as a teacher.

How long have you been drawing?
All my freakin' life, but more seriously since around 1995 or so.

How do you colour so well on the computer?
Well, just a fair bit of practice, I guess. I've been doing stuff like this for ages now, dating back to when I'd just scribble with a mouse on Microsoft Paint. Unless there was a huge demand, I probably won't be doing any kind of tutorial here on the page. There's lots of other places out there that already have good information on that. You can start by checking my links page. However, I will leave this as a piece of advice. If your sights are completely set on doing artwork strictly with a computer, than you'll never be as good as a real artist. Practice drawing and colouring the real way as well, because if you can't do that, you ain't worth nothin' to me.

What programs do you use?
I mostly use Photoshop. If you're looking to get into the same kind of thing, then get Photoshop. Most of the artwork pages should have a brief description on exactly what tools I use. As far as coding the web page goes, I use a simple text editor. Nothing too fancy.

Is any of your artwork for sale?
Yes, much of this artwork is for sale if you want it. This is on a case by case basis though, as some of the original image files have been lost. If there is something that you'd like to buy a copy of, please ask to see if it is available. I would be happy to print out posters of my artwork. Prints will be of high quality and free of the watermarks you see here on this webpage. I am also willing to modify something or even create something original. Please contact me and we'll talk.

Can I e-mail you some of my own art for you to look at?
No. Do not send me any image files via e-mail without asking me first. Instead, send me a link to your webpage and I'll look at your art there. If you don't have a webpage, then get one! Better yet, register for the message board and put it up there in the Art Gallery! I'm happy to look at artwork, but I don't want my e-mail to get clogged up with pictures I didn't ask for.

Who are the girls?
Cyan, Amber, and Magenta are my own character designs, and I've given them a few jobs around the site to give it some colour. Cute, aren't they? You can find out more about them on the Originals gallery.

Can I draw Cyan, Amber, and/or Magenta?
Yes! Several people, besides myself, have drawn my character designs. Do your best to capture the essence of their individual personalities. And make sure that you post your work on the message board!

Music Questions

How does this Ninja Radio work?
It works by way of radio.blog, a stand alone sound player that streams music from the Internet. You don't have to download anything special to listen to Ninja Radio. All of the sound files are hosted right here on SykoGrafix, and no mp3 files or illegal materials are being made available on this website whatsoever.

How often do you update your playlist? When will you update it next?
I update the music whenever I feel like it. Usually I only update the playlist when I update everything else around the site. Typically I'll leave a playlist on for 2 or 3 months, but don't be surprised if it's longer than that. To be notified on when the playlist updates next, sign up to the Mailing List.

Why'd you remove my favorite song! Why do you still list previous playlists if you're not going to let people listen to them any more? Will you bring this song back?
I like to change the music to keep things fresh and to make people continue to visit to see what's new. That means all the songs eventually get deleted and replaced with new ones. I'm not in the music business and have nothing to gain from having lots of music on this site. This is just something I do for fun. The lists of previous playlists are there so that I have a record of what songs have already been on Ninja Radio and so everyone else can see what kinds of music I like to put up on the site. It is highly unlikely that I will ever put the exact same song on the radio twice. I'm sorry if you really liked a previously featured song, but I hope you will also like some of the other music on Ninja Radio.

Can I request a certain song, a band, or music from a particular movie or series?
Sure. Do that on the message board and let's talk about it. I can't guarantee that I will follow your request, but I'm always interested on what else is out there and what people might want to listen to.

Can I set up a Radio on my own website?
Absolutely. Just check out the radio.blog website and download your own copy. Please realize that my Ninja Radio has been highly modified from the original radio.blog, and I can not provide support for this software as I'm just a regular user.

I can't get Ninja Radio to work! What should I do?
First, you need to have Macromedia Flash installed on your computer. But you should probably have that already anyway. Next, Ninja Radio opens up in a pop-up window, so if your browser has pop-ups disabled or you are running some sort of pop-up stopping program, you need to do whatever it is that you need to do to allow that window to pop up without being closed automatically. If you are still having problems, please let me know what's wrong and I'll see what I can do about it.

Where did you get all of the songs on the music page?
Various sources. If you are looking to get them for yourself, then good luck, but I can not help you. I can tell you that if I found them, then so can you.

Can you send me this MP3?
NO. Do not ask me this. I'll simply laugh and make fun of you.

Do you actually like this music? Why?
Yeah, maybe. I like it well enough I guess. It does not suck.

Message Board Questions

How do I sign up/post at the message board?
There is a different FAQ especially for the board that'll tell you everything you need to know about signing up and posting. Please read through both it and the rules page as well. They are linked on the top right hand corner of every board page. I have high hopes for that board, so let's do our best to create an amazing community!

Why should I sign up to the message board?
Why not? It's fun. You get to talk to people there. Isn't that a lot more interesting than this one-sided conversation we're having right now? If someone were to tell me what they thought of my site, I am much more inclined to listen to someone who is a member on my message board than anyone else. So, sign up. What have you got to lose?

What am I supposed to talk about on the message board?
Well, anything you want, really. Talk about what you've seen here on the webpage, stuff that you like, stuff that you hate, your art, my art, or whatever else is on your mind. Certainly you must be able to come up with something worth talking about?

I tried to sign up but I'm not a member yet? What happened?
You may not be able to start posting right away because sometimes memberships will have to be manually approved first. This is to just to keep spammers and trolls away, that's all. Have patience and your account will be activated as soon as possible. Then you will be sent the information to complete your registration and begin posting. If you think there has been a problem please contact me.

Stupid Questions

You suck. Why don't you just quit?
Anyone who sends me an e-mail like this will be destroyed.
Because ninjas never quit, gaijin. Besides, there are a bunch of crazy folks out there who don't think I suck very much at all. What am I supposed to do about them, huh? Just leave them hanging? That'd be pretty damn rude, wouldn't you say?

Hey, I really like something that you don't like. What gives?
Anyone who sends me an e-mail like this will be destroyed.
Yes. They're called opinions. I have opinions, and therefore I hate lots of stuff. You have two choices on how to solve this problem. Number one, you can deal with it, or number two, you can choke on it, fanboy.

Hey, I really hate something that you don't hate. What gives?
Anyone who sends me an e-mail like this will be destroyed.
This is even better. I honestly don't care. In fact, often times I'll just proclaim how much I like something just because so many other people, especially on the Internet, have such an inane hatred for it. I like to tick people off like that. It makes me feel powerful.

I disagree with your opinions. You suck. How do you like that, huh?
Anyone who sends me an e-mail like this will be destroyed.
Good for you. Independent thought is a wonderful thing. Unless, of course, it's based on ignorance or mainstream corporate propaganda. Then it's a bad thing. I don't expect everyone (anyone?) to agree with me, but I do expect everyone who decides to contact me to do so in an intelligent and reasonable manner. So if you want to fight about it,
this is the place.

Ninja Questions.

Why do you keep talking about destruction?
Destruction breeds creation. Much like good and evil, one can not exist without the other. Personally, I like both.

Why do you think you're a ninja?
I am just very ninja-like in my life, so to call myself a ninja is only natural. Most everyone who knows me would agree. I believe in the ninja way. Besides, ninjas are awesome and so am I.

What are you, some kind of freak?
Yes. As a matter of fact, I am.

Do you like pie?
Yes. Very much.
