Ninjatron: Player 2 Version. Smiling but with red eyes. Friend or Foe? |
 |
| I used to have hair that was long in the front and short everywhere else. I don't miss it but I still think it was pretty cool. I shaved my head in the Spring of 2003. |
 |
| If you don't think that I'm a ninja then just look at this shirt. Why would anyone wear a shirt like this if they were not a ninja? |
 |
| My cousin JP had this custom embroidered T-shirt made for me. |
And this hat too. If you see someone wearing a cool hat like this, chances are that it's probably me. So come on over and say hello or something. |

About Me.
I'm Ninjatron, the bandana wearing insane Canadian ninja. You could say that I am often a vengeful and cynical kind of guy, but I'm also easy going and fairly open minded. I'm not particularly fond of being called an "artist", but I guess if you were going to call me anything then that'd be it. I'm also an evil megalomaniac, though.
I attended a high profile art college in Toronto for 2 years. Midway through my 3rd year, I had to leave due to severe pain in my wrist caused from drawing too much. This nearly might have ended my artistic aspirations for good, but I bounced back as best I could and have been working towards personal creative endeavors on my own.

Stuff I Like.
I love comic books and animation from all over the world. I'm interested in Japanese culture and history. Being an anime fan is a big part of my life. I'll pretty much watch any anime, but I especially like the classics such as AstroBoy, as well as series with unique and unlikely topics. I also like live-action series such as Ultraman and Kamen Rider. Star Wars, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nintendo, and Godzilla are my favorite franchises. I'm a real fan and not one of those annoying jerks who just complains about all the things they are supposed to like. I tend to enjoy movies more than most people do, and I buy a lot of DVDs. I like the big blockbusters and the weird foreign independent films. The wilder and crazier the movie is, the better. Especially if it has Kung Fu.

Stuff I Hate.
I hate a lot of things but I'll keep this short. I think it absolutely sucks how animation and comics are not treated with the respect that they deserve on this continent. I also hate stupid and ignorant people, but they are often pretty funny. Lastly, I hate onions. Onions are the worst thing ever created.

Toy Collecting
I collect a lot of toys and action figures. Most of my collection is made up of Star Wars, Transformers, and a few other assorted lines. I've been collecting as a hobby since 1995. This picture is just a small portion of everything I have. My collection looks pretty impressive, but compared to most serious collectors, it's not that much.
While I do have some rare items, I don't really collect because of value. I buy what I like because I think it's cool. I'm more interested in the newer toy lines than the classic ones.

Artistic Influences
I try to learn from everything, and I especially like artwork that is simple and stylish. My favorite works are by Osamu Tezuka, Go Nagai, Shotaro Ishinomori, Gendy Tartakovsky, and Bruce Timm. My main artistic influence is my mentor, David Bluestein. He is the one who taught me how to approach a drawing and pushed me in the right direction. My ultimate goal in life is to have my own animated series, so that I too can influence on people positively on a grand scale.

Teaching Anime.
Ever since 1997, I've been involved with Comic Book Masters, a series specialty drawing classes focusing on comics and animation. I started as a student but quickly moved up to assistant and then teacher. When the time came for CBM to offer a "How to Draw Anime" program, I was asked by David Bluestein to take charge of it due to my interest and knowledge in the subject. I've been teaching my anime classes for several years now and I've seen hundreds of students from all ages go through it. Comic Book Masters changed my life for the better and it means a lot to me to try and do the same for other aspiring artists.

Why "Ninja"?
The reason why I constantly refer to myself as a ninja isn't just because I think ninjas are cool. That much is obvious. I have researched the history and culture of the ninja, found many similarities to myself, and thus have come to employ a ninja-like philosophy to both my creative work and life in general. And I'm sneaky.
To me, being a ninja means that one's mind must always be working, learning, enduring, and adapting in order to accomplish a mission. It's not about adhering to a strict set of rules, but instead using anything and everything in your environment to your advantage. That's how I live. That's the ninja way!
Ninjas were very mysterious and often misunderstood. So am I. But I'm usually fine with that.

Bad Caricatures?
Around this website you may sometimes find strange little giant-headed versions of myself. I draw them to look as unflattering and silly as I possibly can. The resemblance isn't always very accurate, but they somehow end up looking like me anyway.
I don't always take myself all that seriously. I often like to spend my time making fun of stupid things and stupid people, but I'm not above making fun of myself either. It's just another way of injecting some character into this website. |

Is that it?
No, there's probably more to it than this, but I guess if you took a good long look through the various areas of the site you'll probably have a better idea of who I am and what I'm all about.
