Tetsuwan Atomu!

Here he is, the Mighty Atom! Created by The God of Comics, Dr. Osamu Tezuka, the character we know as Astro Boy became the first ever serialized Japanese TV animation and the first ever anime to be dubbed in English for North American broadcast. He has starred in 3 generation-spanning animated series and is beloved all over the world as a symbol of peace, tolerance, and responsibility with technology. For all of these reasons and more, AstroBoy is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the most important anime character of all time. As an anime fan who respects its rich history and culture, it means a lot to me to pay tribute to the character's great legacy with this piece of artwork.

This image started as a pencil drawing that I scanned into Photoshop, painted several layers underneath the line work, and then several more layers overtop. There were no filters, special effects, or computer assisted shortcuts put to use here. It's all just me, Photoshop, my tablet, my stylus, a lot of patience, and what I like to think was a little help from Manga no Kamisama.
