What's Armada with you?
I remember exactly when I did this, and why. It was August of 2002, the week of the annual Canadian National Comic Book/Sci-Fi/Anime Expo, which I regularly attend. I had just submitted a piece of artwork that I was commissioned to do, and it did not go over very well, leaving me with less money to spend at said Expo. I was, needless to say, very angry. As a way of making myself feel better, I decided to draw the angriest thing I could think of. And that was the newest Transformers toy I had bought earlier that week; Demolishor, the evil Decepticon from Armada.
I drew this very quickly and very roughly due to my mood at the time, and decided not to refine it before colouring as I usually do, but rather just scan it as it was and let the anger that had been reflected onto that line work be in turn used to enhance the anger of the character. I used my digital drawing tablet to colour it with Photoshop, and by that time I had calmed down a bit and started to realize that something decent was coming out of this mess. It was also a good opportunity to experiment, as I had just gotten my tablet at the time.
There are a few issues with certain thing like the perspective and lines being straight and whatnot, but honestly, I don't think it really matters in this case. I was going for feeling, not technical perfection. At the time, the Armada TV series had yet to air and I had no reference in regards to the animation character design, so I just interpreted to toy into two dimensions as I saw fit. A few bits are exaggerated for style purposes, and because it was more fun.
