Meet the Eva Girls

Here are Asuka, in red, and Rei, in white, from the famous anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Not sure exactly why I chose to paint this. I was going through a tough time and I suppose I was in an Evangelion kind of mood. If you are familiar with the series in its entirety then you know that can be a pretty scary thing! I guess it helped having something to do at the time.

I did this digital painting in July of 2006. It was painted completely in Photoshop. No pencil or paper was used at all! Though the original drawing I did was a little different than what the final product looks like. As I was painting I came to realize how off model it was looking. So I was cutting and shifting big blocks of color and filling in the seams until I got it looking right. It's not perfect, but I like the painted look and the vibrant colours along with the muted background. It came out ok.

Can anyone guess what the hardest thing to draw was?

If you said "Asuka's Bosoms", then you are right! It was tough to get everything looking correct up there!
