It's not easy being green.
Dragonball Z has sure gotten popular. Of course, there are those who believe that it's a waste of animation, and those who absolutely hate the American version, but let's not go there. It has lots of fighting. So, of course, that means I like it.
I guess if I had to pick a favourite character, it'd be this guy. He's a big green badass who will gladly destroy whatever stands between him and his ideals. We've actually seen him grow and change as a character, finding friends and fitting in better with the other fighters. And he's always the voice of reason on the Z team.
This painting was done on cold press Bristol board at around spring time of 2001 using water colour paints and pencil crayons. Using this technique let me add yellow and orange highlights from the sky which made the whole image look more 3 dimensional.
This was also completed over the course of many weeks as an example for my students to see how to apply all of the steps of this technique to their own paintings. What you are seeing here is a digital photograph of the real thing.
Here's a close up.
Piccolo shares space on the same board as another painting: Rei Ayanami from Evangelion! Click on this picture of them both together to see her.
