Who're you callin' little?

For those that don't know, Super Deformed, or SD, is when a character is modified so that the head is huge with big eyes, the body is small, and the detail is simplified. This is done a lot with anime and manga characters in Japan, but any character at all can be done in SD. In this case, I did my favourite comic book characters of all time, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The main thing to think of when drawing SD is that the personality of the characters has to show through. With the TMNT, there are 4 very different personalities, so it was important that each of the boys look like they should. For example, Leonardo looks more determined, where as Michelangelo's got a bit of a smile,

This was finished late summer 2000.

Here's a different variation, with a pinkish beam of light in the background, similar to the opening of the original animated series from the 80's. I actually like this a bit better.
