Good and evil are only skin deep.
I love the Beast era of Transformers. The characters, the animation, the writing, all of it. Here's a piece of art that represents one of my favourite angles from that time. From Beast Wars, we had the noble and heroic Maximal warrior Silverbolt, who was always serious and sought the best in everyone, even villains like Blackarachnia. Then in Beast Machines, Jetstorm, the sickeningly evil Vehicon general with the disturbing sense of humor, actually was Silverbolt! The irony of it all. I quite enjoy that wild range of opposites, and how two totally different characters can actually be one.
This was a present for a good friend of mine, who upon a request (or demand, whatever) for me to draw her something, I chose Silverbolt, one of her favourite Transformers. I also thought it would be cool to add Jetstorm into the mix, seeing as Silverbolt becomes Jetstorm in Beast Machines. I had originally wanted to add Silverbolt in his Beast Machines body from when he was bought back from being Jetstorm, but I couldn't find a way to make it fit. These two work well enough on their own, I think.
I did this in December of 2002. Rough pencil line work with Photoshop colouring via my digital drawing tablet. I really like how sinister Jetstorm looks, and how Silverbolt looks very proud yet a bit dopey, like he is totally unaware of the potential for evil that lurks within him.
