She can Slay me Anytime!

Lina Inverse from The Slayers

Slayers is such a great anime. Always good for a laugh and full of action. For another of my anime painting classes, I decided to take a shot at painting Slayers' main star Lina Inverse. As usual I finished this in class as part of my demonstration, though this time I only had 3 weeks to work with instead of the usual 8. It was a bit rushed but I'm pretty happy with it. It was a lot of fun working with the ins and outs of the character design and getting it to look on model.

I always like to have fun with using warm or cool colour schemes in order to set a mood. This time I wanted to try one going from warm to cool, so I set about in using a sunset motif, It worked really great because all of the navy blues, pinks, purples, oranges, and yellows that make up a sunset also make up Lina's costume.

Finished Summer 2003 using watercolour paint and coloured pencils on cold press illustration board. The scan doesn't capture the true nature of the colours, but it's good enough.
