Chupacabra

Chupacabra

Spring 2006, pencil & Photoshop.

This creature is a Chupacabra, or "goat sucker". Chupacabras are a legend from Puerto Rico, certain places in South America, Mexico, and even areas of the United States. Some people actually think that they actually exist! It's tied to the mysterious killings of livestock who were found with all of their blood drained out of small circular puncture wounds. Creepy stuff!

This was done some time in the Spring of 2006 for a book about creatures that may or may not be real. I have no idea if the book ever got published. Not a big deal though, since I wasn't going to be paid and just did it for the experience. I started with a pencil drawing, painted it in Photoshop, and then used some photographic elements for textures.

There are many different interpretations of what the Chupacabra looks like. I went with an alien-lizard-monkey approach. I did a lot of research to figure out what sort of design this thing should have, then with that in mind I did my own version. There are some flaws in the original pencil work but I really love drawing monsters so working on this was a good time.
