Old Cyan Pics.I created Cyan solely for the reason of decorating this website when it first went online. I had no intention at the time of making her into a character that I'd draw again and again, but those first drawings exhibited so much personality that I had to expand on it. Unfortunately it was quite hard at the early going to capture that personality because she's not as easy to draw. But I've since found a formula and in that time have improved the design quite a bit. Take a look at some of these early pictures and see what I mean.
Here's an early one, coloured in Photoshop from a pencil drawing in Fall or Winter 2001. I've often drawn Cyan holding a paintbrush just for the sake of a gimmick for the website (you know, so it's like she's the one who made everything blue) but I guess now I'll just say she's an artist and that's her personality. She's a lot different than the typical hyper-cute anime girl you might often see. I wanted her to be, for lack of a better term, a darker looking character. She's not "evil" or anything, but she's mysterious, which suits this website a lot. I've since changed things like the design of her eyes and added elements to her outfit like her yin yang belt (or maybe I just forgot to draw it in this one. Whatever.).
This was also from Fall or Winter of 2001, and done as part of a redesign of the main page I didn't end up going with it. I later used this image in another piece of art, but I don't have that anymore. I think this one was actually coloured before the one up top. Anyway, I love the expression on her face. It's like she's defying the rules and saying "What?" as if she's done nothing wrong. There's some issues with the pose and the body though, as girls generally fold their arms in a lower position than I've drawn here. That's generally why I didn't bother doing much with it, and decided to use the next drawing instead.
This is from Spring of 2001 and unlike the above two pictures, this one was actually inked before I scanned. This is still one of the better drawings I've done of her. The key to the design, I've found, is to make her pupils big and dark and to draw her mouth very small. The main thing I've changed since is she doesn't wear the site's logo on her shirt any more. It's too hard to draw. So instead I've given her a simplified skull design, which you'll find on more recent drawings of her. © SykoGrafix Inc.
