Magenta and Amber Reading Manga

Magenta and Amber Reading Manga

This was done Summer 2002 as an advertisement for my drawing class, but really ended up being an experiment in Photoshop techniques. I manipulated the inked line art a whole lot after I scanned and practiced colouring with cel-shading which I was still trying to get a handle on. Luckily for me I had my digital tablet by my side, having just gotten earlier that summer. I'm not really happy with the line art, but I'm willing to see it as more of a learning exercise than anything else. The background is there just because I felt like trying out those brushes, but it gives the subject a nice soft feel, which works well for the scene at hand.

As far as concept goes, I like this a lot. It's just two girls reading Japanese comics together, and what's not to like about that?
