New SG Design ArtI did a lot of artwork just to serve various purposes for the SykoGrafix 2003 redesign. I wanted to showcase Cyan, Magenta, and Amber a lot more to add some more colour to the new version of site, and also because they were becoming more popular. I wanted to also display those pictures in the art galleries so that everyone could get a closer look. Unfourtunatly, after that redesign was finished and uploaded, I lost most of my original image files. This is all I could scrape up.
This one was done in November of 2002, well before the design was finished. I remember spending a lot of time on it, tweaking the digitally inked lines with Streamline and Illustrator and the colour cuts in Photoshop for hours. I was pretty happy with it. This is one of the first times I've ever drawn Cyan smiling. Yes, for her, that's a smile. This is a scan of a printout, and despite my best efforts, the colours don't really look like they're supposed to.
When it came to finishing the artwork section of the page, I got the idea to divide all of the work into 3 sections and give each section to one of the girls. So I decided to give the Fan Art section to Cyan and make her wear a Decepticon T-Shirt. To push the gag, I gave her a fan to hold, and an expression to match the pun. This image here was something I threw together to promote the new version of SG on some message boards I frequent. Finished Spring 2003.
By process of elimination, Magenta was assigned the Original Art gallery. But what to make her do that says "Original"? Well, since she was the first original character I designed back when I started drawing anime style, I decided to make her confidently pointing to herself, because she knows exactly how great she is. Finished Spring 2003.This is also a scan of a printout. © SykoGrafix Inc.
