Behold the Planet Earth. Yawn.
This was for an assignment completed for the Ontario College of Art and Design 3rd Year Illustration Program. The task was to do a spot illustration that would go along with an article about finding the best, most talented people to work for non-profit organizations.
The whole idea that I had here was that, since non-profit organizations are supposed to be helping the world, I wanted to show the world putting out a call for help. The teacher suggested using a light beamed out into space, like the Bat-Signal. I think this is a pretty big statement, that the planet is looking for the best and brightest from throughout the entire galaxy.
This is almost 100% digital, done in Photoshop. A pencil drawing was used for the planet's land masses, but it is no longer part of the finished work. There are a variety of textures used for areas of land. The stars are actually a real ink splatter that I scanned and played with.
Even though it's painted pretty nicely, it's still pretty boring. It's just a circle. Let's see if I can't make this a bit more exciting?
Ahh, much better!
