Green Goo Robot

Green Goo Robot

My love of giant robots is well known. During a final compellation project for a 2D design class at the Ontario College of Art and Design, I used giant robots as a theme. That meant I had to draw a whole lot of big bots, and I had to do them quickly. I sketched this up one day, and coloured it as I was putting the whole thing together in one night. I don't think I even spent 2 hours on this piece.

My thinking was, since I'm going to be drawing so many robots, I might as well do something a bit different. Some of them are even to weird for this site. So I thought about what would be the strangest possible weapon for a giant robot to carry. That's where the goo gun comes from. Why would a robot shoot goo? Maybe it melts metal, maybe it gums up the works, whatever. I combined this unique weapon with a bug-like alien design aesthetic. So he's probably part of an evil invasion force or something. The background is just a picture of some mountains that I manipulated a bit.

This was a really quick job and it could be a lot better, but the concept and use of colour and texture in Photoshop are cool enough to get a spot here.

Finished Winter 2001.
