OMG Webcomic!!!111
In the Spring of 2005, I was asked by my friend Shawn if I would like to participate in a week of comic strips provided by guest artists for a webcomic he was running at the time called "Infidel Regime". Naturally I was thrilled with the prospect.. My idea was to make a comic that made fun of everything that most standard webcomics are all about, and do it in such an overblown, exaggerated way to make it seem like it's pushing the envelope when really it's not offering anything new at all. Until the very end, that is.
The first panel is both my way of making fun of comics who keep resorting to George Bush jokes, which are just not funny anymore, and combining a whole bunch of other topical issues into one really outlandish headline. I just love the "To the Extreme!" graphic. It's like it tries so hard to be cool and comes across as being so fake.
The second panel is for all of those pop-culture based comics who resort to the whole "nerd" humor. The "Wow!" graphic is obviously sarcastic, as if no one had ever said that Star Wars was for nerds before. Quite frankly, I think anyone who actually thinks that Star Wars is for nerds is a complete moron. Yoda is there acting like he doesn't know what to say about this shocking statement.
The third panel is an obvious jab at the horde of comics based on video games that feel like they have to resort to crude language to be funny. All of the graphics and text in this panel hype it up as if nothing like that had ever been done before, when really there's like a million comics that do that and almost of them suck. I get a kick out of seeing Mario look so happy and yet he has all of this nastiness to say.
And the final panel is "the punchline", I guess. I just threw in something completely stupid, off the wall, and random that no one would ever expect after reading those 3 panels of webcomic cliches. Pineapple is super sexy, after all.
