This text has Turtle Power!
This was an assignment for a 2D Design course in my first year at the Ontario College of Art and Design. The task was to pick 3 letters in any one typeface and use them in a composition. After playing around for awhile with a few different options, the letters that I should use just hit me and I got inspired.
It may not look like much, but a lot of work goes into things like this. It's very important to manipulate the viewers' eyes so that they go exactly where they should be going and not somewhere else. In this case, I had to make the letters stand out from the negative space, which was naturally creating big, distracting arrows until I gained control of the composition. It took a long time and a lot of moving things around.
After that, I just had some fun adding colour, texture, and depth, each of these being other things that the class had previously focused on. These elements coupled with the letters and the font that I used create a fun little subliminal message. And if you couldn't figure it out by now, as if the title isn't obvious enough, the meaning is simply "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Cowabunga.
