The Kettle that Attacked OCAD!
The final assignment for my Ontario College of Art and Design drawing class was to use perspective techniques to draw a display for a kettle company. It would be in the school's atrium and have to incorporate a large model of a kettle. So, deciding to do things differently as I usually do, I approach this with a Sci-Fi frame of mind. Instead of making a new kettle design, I just take a regular looking kettle and present it in such a way so that it would look like a UFO at first glance, with little buildings underneath that people could walk around at read attached information about the company.
Aside from the preparation work, which was a part of the assignment that was to be marked, I did this entire piece in one night. It was a long night. I didn't sleep very much, and it was very hard to find a place to print it out in the morning (I ended up getting it printed off in sections and pasting them together), but the reaction of the other students when I hung it up on the wall made it all worthwhile. I got an A.
What I like about this is that even though perspective was used, it's not a stiff, lifeless drawing. The rough pencil lines, while being the result of me throwing this together in the last minute, give it a bit of character.
